After high school, David went to the University of Denver where he received dual bachelor's degrees in International Studies and Anthropology with a minor in Spanish. After college David became an EMT for a short while before finding his way into tree work. He quickly grew as a climber and progressed in the arboricultural industry. As he progressed, David became a contract climber, traveling the country, working highly technical jobs, many of which were crane-assisted removals. David chose to set up his contract climbing business in a manner that emphasized travel. As such, he gained exposure to dozens of companies ranging from small to large and from startups to well established enterprises. He has gained exposure to operations at tree companies and storm response companies throughout the country and has developed a deep understanding of what it takes to ensure a successful enterprise.  

David traveled to many storm affected areas as a traveling contract climber specializing in crane-assisted removals and began to set his sights on acquiring a crane to operate in this capacity.  As a step towards this goal, in 2021 David traveled to California to attend a New Jersey Crane Expert certification course hosted at the Academy Trained facility in Santa Rosa, California. After obtaining his NCCER certification, David was recruited to work as an arborist trainer for Academy Trained and Kingsborough Atlas Tree Surgery. Here David worked as the Lead Trainer for California at Academy Trained and the Lead Trainer at Atlas. As he grew into this role, David developed a deep understanding of arboricultural safety and training, becoming an expert in the ANSI standards as well as all that is necessary for tree care operations to remain compliant and operate safely. During this time, David also became a Certified Arborist and a Certified Tree Care Safety Professional. 

David and Ethan have built High Canopy LLC into a high-end residential and commercial tree care resource for Franklin, Marion and Grundy counties to provide the area with a tree care firm that is both preservation oriented and science backed. David still provides arboricultural training in addition to running High Canopy with Ethan.
